It’s been a while since I shared an SEO success story – a case study of how I’ve been able to help a client boost their business online.
This time it’s just a little bit different, because I’m going to share with you how Search Engine Optimisation has started working for me!
You’ve probably heard the old saying that a builder’s house is never finished. Well, it’s been a bit like that for me as an SEO copywriter.
Although I’m 100% convinced of the benefits of SEO and spruik it to other business owners – I hadn’t optimised my OWN business website. Yes, seriously.
It was only about 18 months ago that I realised it was time that I practised what I preached, and began seriously optimising my own website.
One of the keywords which I chose to focus on, was “SEO copywriter Brisbane”. With that in mind, I:
- studied the sites of others on the front page of Google for this search term, to see how they did it – and how I could do it better;
- wrote content about my SEO copywriter service/s;
- started using the phrase throughout the entire site’s content, in strategic places;
- began building backlinks on other reputable sites, using “SEO copywriter Brisbane” as the anchor text.
And while I continued to blog about once a month (because both Google and customers like to see regular updates), I kinda forgot about it – because I knew that SEO is a long term strategy, and it would be a while before I saw any results.
Every now and then I’d check how my site was ranking in search engine results for the phrase “SEO copywriter Brisbane” – and from nowhere, suddenly I was on about the fifth or sixth page of Google.
While not the result I was hoping for, it was a start.
Time passed.
And then I checked again and was delighted to find: I’d managed to get on the front page of Google search results!
At number 6, to be true. Not quite at the coveted number one position, but it was definitely working. (Although when I searched incognito, my business came up as #2 in the map – screenshot at top of this page).
Actually, I already knew my own SEO must have improved quite a lot – because in recent weeks, enquiries have started to trickle in via my website – something that hadn’t really happened before.
My example demonstrates just how SEO can work.
However there are always things that can be tweaked, and further improved.
For example, lately I’ve realised that while it’s exciting to be ranking well for SEO copywriter Brisbane – is that actually a phrase or term that potential clients will use, when searching for my services? Possibly not.
So my next challenge? I will be turning my attention to optimising for the keyword “web content writer Brisbane” …
In the meantime, if you aren’t getting the traffic and enquiries via Google that you’d like, I’d love to put my web content writing talents and SEO skills to work for you – you can get in touch via the Contact page.
